AT&T Presidio Facility
Houston, TX

ATI was commissioned to provide a complete energy analysis for AT&T’s Presidio Facility, a three-story, 156,000-sf office building in Houston, TX. The energy analysis resulted in the retrofit of the central plant to accommodate a new 2200 ton-hour chilled water storage and pumping system to cool the building during peak demand periods.

The chilled water storage system utilizes a full-storage strategy, which shifts the entire on-peak cooling load to off-peak hours. The chillers and pumps operate at full capacity at night to charge the tank, whereas only the pumps run during on-peak periods to cool the building.

Modifications to the central plant include new variable speed pumps and cooling tower fans, DDC controls, new heat exchanger, and storage tank construction. ATI worked closely with AT&T personnel to determine and optimize the sequence of operation for the charge, discharge, and conventional cooling modes, and provided construction administration and commissioning services for the project.
