Sonangol Visualization Center
Luanda, Angola
Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol) is Angola’s national oil company, and was established immediately following the country’s independence in 1976. ATI-CM, Inc. was contracted to design and build a new visualization center in their Luanda, Angola headquarters, which vaulted Sonangol onto the international stage by allowing them to fully utilize newly acquired offshore blocks off the West-African coast.
ATI-CM’s Houston-based A/E team designed the space to operate fully independent of the existing building’s infrastructure. A new 30-KVA UPS and battery system supports the facilities’ mainframe computer system and 3D projection system. Stand-alone, redundant HVAC systems accommodate the three separate areas that together made up the complete visualization environment. The space is currently used as both a working interpretation center as well as a presentation space for clients.
The visualization center and associated data and electrical support spaces total 130 m2 (1,400 ft2). Local Angolan contractors built the space under supervision by ATI-CM’s construction managers.
