UTMB Campus Life
Safety Upgrades
Galveston, Texas
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a major academic health center, with schools of medicine, nursing, allied health sciences and graduate biomedical sciences, as well as specialized institutes for the study of medical humanities and marine biomedicine. ATI partnered with Turner Partners Architects (TPA), LP to provide MEP programming and design necessary for comprehensive life safety upgrades throughout seven (7) buildings in the core hospital complex.
The project features fire alarm system and device upgrade, and creation and verification of fire-smoke barriers in Clinical Sciences; construction of a fire-rated stairway connecting the mezzanine levels of John Sealy Annex; installation and facilitation of a new fire-protection grid connecting the core hospital’s fire water systems; and individual automatic fire sprinkler and standpipe upgrades throughout the complex.
In a separate project, ATI teamed with elevator consultant Pearsohn Hahn to provide programming, consulting, and MEP design necessary to upgrade elevator controls in sixteen (16) buildings throughout the campus.
